Wednesday 6-2-04

Today after going out to the house at 8:00 and doing a bit more cleaning, I went to Franklin to buy another $150 worth of lumber.  It seems that every day or so it is another $150 worth of wood we need to buy.  I bought ten 2x6x10 and six 2x6x14 for the patio cover.  Grandpa called and said that two of my windows didn't come in, so they are going to wait until next week to bring them down.

Matt had to go buy a fitting for the backhoe so we really didn't get started until about 10:00.

We cut out the beam pockets in the walls and found that the West one was slightly off so we had to cut it over farther.  We built the support for the beam closest to Matts house and after trying to lift the beam up by hand quickly realized that there was no way we were going to make it so we used the forklift to heft it into place.

After that was done, we started on the West beam.  It was shorter so we put it up by hand.  It was still fairly heavy though.

Oh, it turns out that the beam I ordered from Franklin, well, I won't need, but still have to pay for.  So much for $100.

Oh, it was hot today.

We started putting up the trusses and after trying several ways, finaly figured out how to lift the first one up and have things work... Only to discover there was no way to unhook the truss from the forklift...  So we tore down the scaffolding in the house and setup 3 sections so we could get up there and unhook the chain.

After that, we got one or two more on then dad showed up and delegated him to driving the forklift.  We got all the trusses up and the overhang built on the far East side.

We also got a few sheets of OSB on the East side to hold stuff together till tomorrow.

We quit work at about 7 so Matt could go buy groceries, so Dad and I cleaned up until about 8:45.

Also, last night I talked to Jeff and he will probably be over to start plumbing about the 15th.  Randy stopped by and said he was swamped and said to call United Electric to see what they would charge to do the connection.  Chuck came over and looked things over and called a while later and said it would be $600 so I told him to go ahead.  They will do it the first of next week once the digline people come and mark the telephone line out.

Also, while working on this, Bil Chesley called and said he would be out tomorrow to setup his well drilling rig.  $27 a foot plus permit.  I figure it will be no more than $2500 for the well.
