Today I got to the house and drilled the 1/2 inch holes in
the spindles that only needed one hole to fasten them to the rail, and then
screwed them to the face of the stairs. I then started on the top large spindles. I sanded the large spindle that we repaired last night. I took the small rail piece and bored a 1 inch hole through it, then bored a 1 inch hole through the half spindle. I screwed the rail piece to the half spindle with two sheetrock screws. I then bored a 1/2 inch hole half way through the other large spindle and then a 1 inch hole in the other side about an inch deep. I then finished boring the 1/2 inch hole through the rest. Using a 10 inch lag bolt, I connected the whole thing together. The lag bolt went into the brace I embedded into the wall when I was framing earlier this summer. I had to cut out the sheetrock to get the half spindle in correctly as well I then finished the small spindles at the top that needed to be put in after the larger ones were in. I then cut a small piece of oak to put between the two large spindles (picture 18). I vacuumed the living room and family room. I also put a second coat on all the trim in the kitchen, and family room. I still need to paint inside the window opening and inside the sliding door openings with a roller. I also stained the oak speaker shelves I built yesterday and stained the plugs for the stair rails. I put the door knob on the door in the closed under the stairs. I helped Matt work on his window sills for his home theater. |
